Unnatural links message in the Google Webmaster Tools
1If you browse any internet marketing or SEO forums at the moment, there are dozens of topics on the same problem: A few weeks ago Google started sending out what some people refer to “kiss of death” notices via the webmaster tools message interface:
We’ve detected that some of your site’s pages may be using techniques that are outside Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.
Specifically, look for possibly artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site that could be intended to manipulate PageRank. Examples of unnatural linking could include buying links to pass PageRank or participating in link schemes.
We encourage you to make changes to your site so that it meets our quality guidelines. Once you’ve made these changes, please submit your site for reconsideration in Google’s search results.
If you find unnatural links to your site that you are unable to control or remove, please provide the details in your reconsideration request.
If you have any questions about how to resolve this issue, please see our Webmaster Help Forum for support.
Sincerely,
Google Search Quality Team
After gathering some statistics on what happens afterwards, the result will always be the same: It will take a few days or weeks, then your site gets a penalty, from -5 to -50 or even worse, depending on how excessively you used what Google refers to as unnatural links.
While a penalty is nasty, it’s not the end of the world. It normally expires over time and you should not file a reconsideration request if you didn’t make significant efforts to remove the links in question. Simply waiting, adding new content and quality links is often the much better way. Keep in mind, filing this requests means admitting you did something wrong and a manual review of your website. Sinned a little? Ask for reconsideration and document your efforts to remove the “bad” links. Bad boy? Better sit and wait, you don’t want to make the problem even worse.
The problem seems to be closely related to the de-indexing of thousands of domains, a popular blog network service called BMR even had to close down because their whole network was busted. ALN lost over 5000 domains in a single strike and even smaller services or completely private networks were hit hard. So, if your rankings dropped without any notice and you used one of these networks, chances are high you simply dropped in the SERPs because you lost loads of links.
The sky is falling? From the panic on many forums you could assume the golden age of SEO is coming to an end. No, certainly not. Google is on a crusade, but if the dust settles, I’m pretty confident that blog networks will grow strong again, but with more focus on variety and quality. ALN already announced Version 2.0 with enhanced features like posts without links, slower post distribution, better quality checks, only 5 submissions per article and there is a lot more to come.
Also, keep in mind to use networks to spice up your backlinks, never rely on them as the only source, don’t overdo it. If a site has loads of natural links, quality links, social proof and all the things Google likes, mixing in blog networks for extra link juice and IP popularity won’t hurt. Think about them as the cherry on the cake, an extra booster, but diversify as much as you can and never neglect quality.

Article Spinning 2012
0Does using spun articles for backlinks still work on 2012? Yes and no. Content generated by an article spinner can vary a lot in quality, so any general statement would be false. Article directories have certainly lost a part of their effectiveness, especially since they are often heavily spammed by submitter programs. The classic article directory will certainly survive, but building your own target lists for the software you use or just submit more for the same results, no matter if the well-known AMR or any similar solution.
Our statistics show the the indexing rates are steadily declining, since the number of articles indexed on a certain site is related to it’s strength and pagerank. A PR2 article directory won’t get tens or hundreds of thousands of pages into the Google index. Stop submitting? No, but be aware that more effort is required for the same results.

The white knight saving you and your article spinner generated articles in 2012 is: The blog network. There are a multitude of private, semi-private and public networks like the recently reviewed ALN blog network which allow users to publish rewritten articles in spintax format with backlinks to their websites. Usually 1 to 3 links per article. Since Google is smart and knows about these techniques, don’t be surprised to see some blogs from these networks getting de-indexed from time to time. Especially private networks are vulnerable since they often lack a variety of hosting, shared and dedicated IPs, shared and dedicated nameservers, different whois data behind the privacy, just to name a few huge footprints easily detectable by the search engines. On some forums people report that their $10k investment in expired domains was eradicated from the Google index in a single strike. That’s the advantage of public networks that give you access for a fee and/or require you to add own sites to the network. They keep the footprints close to non-existent, something a single owner could barely achieve without enormous effort and decent knowledge about the spam detection algorithms.
Never put all your eggs in one basket, the most stable link building is links from all different kinds of sources. Content links from article directories and blogs are extremely effective, but don’t skip the usual lower level links like bookmarks, comments, profiles, web 2.0 properties, layered link building and so on. The day when automatically spun content is detected as spam and all links from it are de-valued will probably never come, but being prepared for this day won’t hurt, too.

Authority Link Network ALN Blog Network Review
0Everybody wants backlinks, everybody needs backlinks but high quality backlinks are hard to find. Most people completely rely on the usual link sources like social bookmarks, blog comments or other relatively spammy approaches. Especially after the latest Google Panda update, these kinds of automated mass backlinks don’t work very well any more. Even worse, getting penalized for excessive link spam is now much more likely.
To avoid problems and rank for competitive keywords good links, directly from the content, are your top choice. That’s what networks like Authority Link Network aka ALN are made for. So far, most of them charged per article submission or had relatively high monthly fees of $67, $97 or even $127. ALN is a lot cheaper, prices start at $14.95 per month for unlimited submissions.
There is just one catch: In order to get submissions, you need to add own blogs with pagerank to the network, the higher the page rank of the blog or blogs you add, the more daily submissions you get.
One submission point translates to your spun article with the backlinks of you choice getting published on 15 blogs of other members. The advantage of this system is obvious: A huge IP Popularity and alot of Geo Variation of your links. All those links are pagerank links, because blogs without page rank can’t be added to the system and blogs who lost pagerank are constantly removed. Even better, each member needs to ensure that 10 blog posts are published on the front page. From my observation, it stays there for a least a few days since the overall number of blogs in ALN are almost 9000 at the moment!
Got unused domains with pagerank? Want to boost your rankings without spending a lot of money? Then Authority Link Network is your choice. Even if you don’t have any spare domains with page rank, they can easily be bought relatively cheap on forums like Digital Point or services like Snapnames.
I’m personally using ALN for months now and the results speak for themselves, this is not a fancy secret method or bogus link spam system, this is solid whitehat links many big professional SEO agencies often sell their client at a price per link that’s higher than the monthly membership fee of $14.95. Targeted do follow content links from sites with pagerank, basically the best type of links you can get for your website.
Overall Rating 10/10: The Authority Link Network system is simple, the interface is easy but it’s one of the most power link building tools you have ever come across, promised. There are already people on several well-known forums selling submissions in the network, but joining yourself is the better and cheaper option.

Article Marketing Robot AMR Review
1Spinning articles is perfect for generating loads of unique versions, but submitting them manually is extremely time-consuming and ineffective. You may choose some service from a forum, but long-term that’s very expensive and you are never sure if the submissions are really done the way you want them to be done. So, basically, having a good article submitter is a must.
Article Marketing Robot, often just called AMR is certainly one of the top submitting solutions and only rivaled by Article Demon. Since they both support the same platforms and AMR costs at least $30 less it was my first choice.
The first really pleasant surprise is the fact that Article Marketing Robot offers a big preloaded database, so no need to spend many hours or days scraping and building your submission list, you can instantly start off with 1500+ article directories.
Account creation is really easy since AMR integrates popular CAPTCHA solving services and comes with a email confirmer, so getting your accounts registered and ready for submission is an automated task. Enter details, push button, enjoy. The successful registrations will vary, from my experience around 60-75% success is the average which is really good for full auto mode, keeping in mind that article directories pop up and are closed down as fast as social bookmarking sites.
The integrated spinner isn’t bad, I didn’t test it much since I own The Best Spinner (see review) which is certainly superior for rewriting purposes. If you don’t have a spinning tool and don’t want to invest in one, you can use this built-in spinner, but be advised that it’s a submitter and will never reach the spinning quality of a dedicated spinning tool with user driven cloud thesaurus.
The submission process itself is really fast, thanks to parallel threads, so no waiting for one directory till you can submit to the next one. Multithreading speeds up the process a lot and isn’t included in most other article submission programs. You can also schedule your submissions in a drip-feeding style, if you don’t want Google to find all those links at once. At the end, you get a nice report. My usual results are about 70% successful live submissions, again, absolutely impressive for full automation.
Overall Rating 9/10: Article Marketing Robot is an easy solution to submit to hundreds or thousands of directories without any lengthy submission list building or similar. Sure, you can add more sites to submit to yourself, but it’s refreshing to see a submitter that can be used as is without additional work. This makes it especially attractive for new internet marketers.
Even better, if you are not sure if it’s a good investment (it is!), you can download the software and take a 5 day free trial, so no need to buy without testing. No discount code or coupon needed!

Weekly Spin Ready Articles Review
0Weekly Spin Ready Articles is a relatively new service founded by Bertus Engelbrecht which offering pre-spun and ready to use articles for submission or your own spinning. I signed up early this year and this service definitely lives up to the promises made.
The articles only cover the internet marketing niche, so it’s nothing for people advertising electronics or diet offers, but in this niche Bertus offers pretty much everything. The articles cover PPC, membership sites, blogging, copywriting, website creation, affiliate marketing, making money online, traffic generation, email list building and a lot more. So not just one niche of internet marketing, but the whole package.
The quality is impressive and can be compared with outsourcing to college/university degree level writers. So, no cheap PLR nonsense, no repetitive phrases without any real meaning, well researched quality articles. This is what makes this service stick out of the crowd of SEO writing services and other article offers.
In addition, Bertus Engelbrecht’s Weekly Spin Ready Articles addresses another common problem with articles: “Spinnability“. Many writers who aren’t experienced with spinning may write good articles, but the average articles will be hardly readable if spun for a highly unique result. These articles were written for being ultra-spinnable from the beginning, delivering superior results. A list of 1200+ article directories you can submit to automatically is included as a bonus!
Overall Rating: 10/10: If you are serious about article marketing and want to submit unique articles to hundreds of sites, this service is an absolute no-brainer you must have!
At the moment Weekly Spin Ready Articles is available at is discount price of $39.95 for 25 lucky marketeers. Then the price will go up to the usual $69.95/month. Click here to automatically get the “Warrior Forum” discount of $30 off, no need to enter any coupon code, no cheaper offers around.

The Best Spinner TBS Review
0The Best Spinner was one of the first spinning tools on the market and can without a doubt be considered as a state of the art solution for content spinning. Since all spinning tools work pretty much the same way, by replacing words with synonyms, I’ll focus on the most interesting and unique features.
The most essential part of spinning is a huge and accurate synonym database, especially if you are trying to spin articles in niches that aren’t too popular. So, spinning an article about weight loss is probably done very well by all spinning programs, but the number of choices for more exotic articles separates the good databases from the outstanding ones. The Best Spinner uses a lately very popular cloud computing method.
New synonyms are added on the fly if users add them and since The Best Spinner has a huge number of users, this feature works very well and accurate, sorting out typos and unpopular or wrong synonyms while keeping the favourites used by many people.
Nested spinning, the shuffling of different versions of a sentence that’s spun on word level as well, is supported and it works very well.
Like most article spinners it has a manual mode and a fully automatic one, so you can either spin yourself for the best quality or let the program do the job. The automatic results are impressive, I didn’t see any other program delivering the same autospinning quality so far. Sure, there are always some errors you should correct manually since a software can’t know every meaning of a word depending on context, but never less results are fantastic.
Last but not least, the TBS API, an access interface for other tools that can integrate The Best Spinner functionality, is incredibly famous. Almost all WordPress autoblogging plugins that support rewriting use TBS, you simply enter a special key and the plugin hooks up with TBS and spins the content for you.
Overall Rating 9/10: The Best Spinner is as perfect as an article spinning tool can be, a solid framework combined with the best database around. The only reason why I won’t ive a full 10 is that fact that it’s subscription based and can’t be bought as a one time investment.
The price is very reasonable, you get a full and unlimited trial week for $7, then it costs $77 a year. Really not much for a tool that lives up to its name: The Best Spinner around.

Why article rewriting and article spinning?
1Article spinning is just a synonym for automatic or semi-automatic rewriting of articles. The goal of rewriting or spinning is to write just one base article for the most important article directories and then spin this unique article to get hundreds of unique variations you can submit to other article directories.
Why not use just one article? The reason is simple: Especially since the so-called “Panda” Update Google hates duplicate content more than ever. Mayor article directories you certainly know, like articlesbase and ezinearticles, lost more than 80% or their total visibility and traffic due to this algorithm updated targeted at content farms. That’s why some people call it “Farmer Update”.
Duplicate content does not rank any more and even worse, links inside duplicate articles are devalued to zero by Google. So, submitting the same article to thousand article directories will pretty much have the same effect like submitting to just one. Loads of effort and wasted time for links that won’t count or help you for SEO and ranking. SEOmoz published an interesting post on their blog (read article) about it, explaining what variations of duplicate content exist and how Google handles them with the new “Panda” algorithm.
Articles spinning can be either done by automatically rewriting using a software that replaces words with synonyms or by selecting these synonyms, e.g. from a drop down menu, for as many words in an article as possible. Results vary, the more you spin the less readable an article will be for visitors, but it always stays semantically correct and can’t be detected as spun content by the search engines if done right. I would recommend spinning to at least 50% uniqueness, 70%+ is even better. Keep in mind most articles won’t rank anyway, so it’s more about building quality in-content backlinks than readability for the user. The less you spin, the higher the odds that Google may see the spun article as a duplicate of the original.
Automatic rewriting requires some training, but after the first few articles you’ll easily learn how to perfectly spin your content. Do some training before you start you first submissions of the spun articles since the quality of the spinning will influence the number of articles approved on article directories that do no autoapprove every submission dramatically.

How to write spinnable articles?
0In general, almost every article can be spun automatically with a software like The Best Spinner, but there are a few little tips making it a lot easier for you. First of all, how does a spinner program work? It replaces words or whole sentences with synonyms. The more words you spin, the more unique the new article will be. For submissions to multiple or even hundreds of sites, you also need a lot of synonyms per word. Just spinning every fourth word with two synonyms would mean a lot of duplicate sentences and this way duplicate content. Duplicate content won’t be indexed, so the links in the duplicate article wouldn’t count as back links for your site. Bad.
If you spin every word, the article may be a pain to read, but since Google can’t really see a difference between a perfectly written article and a spammy word soup, it’s irrelevant. Spun articles are for links only, not for human viewer!
If creating the article you want to spin, fill it with common words, do not use too many expressions that may not have any synonyms at all. Plain english, it’s not a scientific study, it’s an article. If you can explain it in one sentence, make it 5 sentences. Avoid subjects that require a lot of research, write about something basic you know, this technique allows you to write more articles in less time. Remember, 350 words mean 1-3 back links.
Once you finished an article, write more! It’s much easier to write 20 articles on the same subject, article after article, instead of trying new subjects all the time. Again, it’s not rocket science and doesn’t have to be useful information, it’s fodder for the bots!
